2009 OBC Lecture Award

31 October 2008

Nominations are now invited for the 2009 Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry Lecture Award.

This annual award is open to scientists who have made a significant contribution in any aspect of synthetic, biomolecular or physical organic chemistry and ideally will have an independent academic career of between 8 and 15 years.

The winner, who must be available to give the sponsored lecture, will also be invited to submit a related article for publication in OBC  (which will be subject to the usual peer review process). The award, open to anyone fitting these criteria, will cover various expenses incurred at the meeting.

The 2009 award lecture will be given at the 42nd IUPAC Congress, to be held in Glasgow, UK between the 2nd and 7th August 2009. The convenors of the following sessions have already kindly agreed to consider nominations for speakers:

Chemistry for Solving Biological Problems
DNA-Based Electrochemical Devices and Biosensors
Heterocyclic Chemistry: Synthesis, Chemical Biology, and Drug Discovery
Natural Products

Nominations for speakers suitable for other sessions are also welcomed.

The winner will be selected from the nominees by a panel of judges, who will announce the result in early 2009. We look forward to receiving your nominations. Nominations should consist of a name and brief explanation as to why the nominee should receive the award.

Nominations should be sent to the editorial office to the attention of the editor, Dr Vikki Allen. All nominations must be received by 1st December 2008.

The 2008 OBC  lecture was given by Dr Akimitsu Okamoto, from RIKEN, Japan.
